Promote your mobile website on other media channels

Last week I was watching some television, like I do almost daily. Flipping channels I came across a commercial of Peugeot. Promoting there new Peugeot 3008 with driving in the snow. Now I never got why you would promote a car in Holland as being good in driving in the snow. You have the same commercial from an other France car maker, Renault or Citroen, I don\'t know. But they also promote there car as a good driving experience in the snow. I don\'t know, but that ain\'t a motivator in Holland, to promote a car like that. Cause it NEVER snows here in Holland. Or 3 days and then the national car services advices all drivers to stay home. Maybe it\'s more interesting to promote a car as a good experience in a traffic jam? That is something we have a lot in Holland. Anyway that was not the intention of this post.

At the end of that commercial there was a URL displayed. http://mobiel.peugeot.nl. When I saw that there went some bells of in my head. BRILLIANT, a mobile website. I quickly yanked the iPhone out of my room mates hand and opened up the website. For a moment while the website was loading, I was worried I didn\'t understood the message right. That the mobile part of the URL had something to do with mobility of the car and nothing to do with mobile phones. Lucky me, I was right. A mobile optimized website, appeared.

The mobile site was simple and easy to use. 2 Main sections and a call to action for a test drive. On every sub page they had multiple calls for action.

Some of these are pretty good, on of them is to win the car for a week. I only needed to fill in my Email to win that. Easy to do on a mobile phone and I will gladly fill in an email. Then their is the main call for action, the one that is also on the homepage.Signup for a test drive, there I needed to fill in 6 input fields. That is way to much on my mobile phone. 2 maybe 3 if it\'s really important. But after 3 I quite. The find a dealer works well, just the numbers of your postal code and you get a hit, just one, more you don\'t need. The video didn\'t work and send a friend is stupid. Send a friend has a bad reputation, the receiver of the email may think it is spam. The whole website was a bit slow, the images are loading slow.. which is the first thing you check on a mobile phone. If they had given a bit more thought they should had made it easy for me to let me send the URL to my email, post it on twitter or add to my bookmark website like delicious. Things you use to view a website on your desktop when you don\'t want to experience them on your mobile phone. No time to read etc. Sending the bookmark to the full desktop website would give me an extra motivation to view it again.
They did send a confirm mail that I filled in my email for winning the car for a week.

But besides the whole website Peugeot did a perfect job. They let me do something I normally wouldn\'t do. Normally I sit in my comfortable chair and gaze t.v.. Commercials come and go, lots of them promoting their website. I never ever remember even 1 of them. 1 Because most of the time i don\'t want to leave my comfortable chair to go see a website or 2 see 1. But know I had the opportunity to visit the website from my comfortable chair. Why I was reminded of that? Completely by on the URL of the commercial. Because it had mobile in the URL, I figured out that I could visit it on a mobile phone. And because I have a mobile phone at my disposal, my room mate has a iPhone and he checks it every 5 minutes, it was a quick step to visit the website.

Now that\'s a window of opportunity for business to connect with their customers directly after you aired the commercial. Find out who they are, try to get their email address and present them with more information about your product. Mobile internet is the perfect channel to do this. A mobile phone is always with you, its personal, people trust there mobile phone. Its an extension of their personality. If you capture you client with a mobile website you can learn a lot about your clients.

Of course the same goes for radio commercials, flyers, billboard, bus commercials etc. Anywhere people are not able to access the internet by there desktop website you should promote the mobile website and make sure you remind them to visit the desktop website when they are home! I think this means you should always promote your mobile website.

(BTW, to check if you tv commercial has any impact? Checking the statistics of your mobile website to see if they have gone up the minute the commercial was aired.)
